CC2540 & CC2590 reference design in Eagle format please

You will have to make a symbol for the CC2590 yourself, but that is quite easy in Eagle.

For the antennas you can follow the dimensions in the app notes AN043 and DN007:

Thanks as always for your help. I've converted the Cadstar file to Eagle. I need to add a status LED, a switch, and the TPS62730 for killer low power / long range operation. I'll let you know how/if it works.

If you are still on the first steps of your design, I suggest you to try the TPS62740 instead of the TPS62730. It's the newest design with 360nA quiescent current, you can keep the converter on instead of switching it for low power or long range operations, it is optimized for ultra low power radio and rf friendly.

The TPS62740 looks like a great choice for the CC2540 & CC2590. Is there a TI library file (.lbr) for the TPS62740? I'd like to include this in the design.

I meant to ask about "eagle" library files for the TPS62740.

Also, I downloaded the CadStar viewer to review the design and confirm my Eagle translation. Unfortunately the CadStar viewer shows the layer thickness as zero. Can someone please load the reference design swrr116 into CadStar and tell me what the layer thickness need to be? Of course this will be critical for correct transmission line function.

The stack-up information is found in the readme file. If I remember correctly, the height from the RF layer to the ground plane is 175 um.

I cannot help you with the Eagle symbol/footprint for TPS62740 other than recommending you to make your own. Out of all the CAD tools I have used, I definitely find Eagle the easiest to make new symbols in.

Hi Ted,

Initially I used a translation service to Eagle. The result was unsatisfactory, and I wanted some special stuff implemented. So, I did it myself. If you're doing a new design I would not use the CC2540/CC2541. It's 8051 processor is OK but not up to the current standard. Any new design should incorporate the CC2640/CC2650, or better yet CC2640r2.

Good to know on the conversion as it sounds like doing it manually is probably the best bet.

Also appreciate the pointers on the more recent parts.  We are trying to determine whether to use a module or design in other parts (perhaps as referenced here and wifi counterparts) and go through more certifications.

Hi Ted,
Looking at implementing a "module" is a really good idea, if time to market matters to you. The newest TI Bluetooth 5 capable device has been released by TI - CC2640r2. My initial review of the LaunchPad indicates that this new device is a serious improvement. If you're starting a new project I'd suggest integrating this device. As far as I know the only available module with this radio is offered by LSR-Laird. It's called something like SaBLEx. I'm sure TI will release their own module with this device, but if the CC2650MODA release is an indication, it won't be available for about a year. So, starting with the SaBLEx might be a good way to go. I'm waiting for my samples now - supposed to be available at the end of June.
