Question about the antenna design for CC2540 development

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

Hello Everyone,

I am an electrical engineer of KOJ electronic CO. LTD. in China. Recently we developed a 2.4GHz Bluetooth control system by CC2540+RFX2401 chips.

The attachments are the relative illustrative electric diagram and the PCB design diagram. Would you please do us a favor to check these files and give us some professional advice? I am still not sure about my new printed antenna design although I have consulted the printed antenna of the TI CC2540 USB Dongle design and other printed antenna designs of some CC2540 application chips. These printed antenna designs are similar but not the same sizes. Would you please tell me the actual referenced sizes of the printed antenna design?

I am looking forward to your answer. Thank you very much! Best wishes!

Sincerely yours,

Ken

  • Hi,

Antenna design is something of a black art, and our antenna reference designs have been developed through a long process of physical testing of the radiation, redesign, retest etc. It's not possible for us to review an antenna design in any meaningful way without considerable effort.

I would recommend that you copy our reference designs 1:1 for the best performance.

  • Hi,

You should follow the dimensions in application note AN043.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
  • The layout looks much better than earlier. You need to move the ground plane closer to the antenna (refer to the application note), and the ground connection of the antenna must be connected to the ground plane. You also have several ground traces that are separated from the ground plane. All ground connections must be solid to the ground plane.
