Hi,

I want to plan a circuit which communicates wirelessly with a robotic computer unit. the communication is indoor and the range is no more than 5 meters. the surroundings could be packed with metal and sometimes people..

what's better to use- sub-G Radio such as 915 Mhz or bluetooth/wi-fi modules?

It is important that the communication will be super relieable!

Does your application have to run on battery power? If yes, I think BLE is better than BT and WiFi.

From a range perspective, unless you need more than 50m range, there is no need to go the Sub-1GHz route. BLE will do just fine. Depending on your needs, bandwidth & throughput might be another consideration before you decide on BLE.

Hello Ram,

Since "super reliable" is difficult to quantify, I suggest using a SensorTag to characterize your RF environment using BLE parameters that would be needed in your production system. This is the most cost effective way to evaluate BLE in your system. Please see the TI BLE Wiki and main SensorTag page: www.ti.com/sensortag for more details.

Hi YiKai,
good point. we're still not sure if it will run on battery.
I have a lot of experience with TI's sub-G radio (CC1121) but none with BLE. I'll think it's a good opportunity for me to dive into this world..

Why choosing Bluetooth over WiFi? what are the advantages?

If you use BLE, it is much more lower power consumption than Wifi.
