Program a new CC2640 device via UART/SPI using ROM bootloader

Hi Surya,

1) Yes, JTAG will be needed on at the very least development versions of the board. The bootloader backdoor is disabled by default in the CCFG. When in production, you can work with a CM to flash your devices with an image that enables the bootloader backdoor in the CCFG.
2)Once the BL and backdoor are enabled the ROM code section will execute regardless of flash contents or other states.
3)You will need a flash programmer to modify the CCFG before the ROM SBL is enabled.

EDIT: The above is valid for development kits which are shipped with pre-programmed SW. On CC2640 parts shipped on reels, the memory contents are all blank (0xFFs), thus JTAG is not required as IMAGE_VALID_CONF is not set (0). Therefore the ROM Serial Bootloader will always be entered until the CCFG is updated. It is always advised to have JTAG access on initial / development boards in case the device needs to be recovered from unintended programming.

You can refer to sunmaysky.blogspot.tw/.../how-to-use-backdoor-serial-boot-loader.html which shows you how to use backdoor boot loader to download FW to CC2640.

JTAG is not necessary for Bootloader to download code through UART for the first time. Both JTAG and Bootloader are pretty fast.
