Hello,

I am having trouble debugging power consumption on CC2541.

Case 1)

Advertising started, it turns off completely after 15s. The power consumption is 0.01ma, which seems good.

Case 2)

Paired, no message coming in to CC2541, The power consumption is 0.7ma ~ 1 ma. It drains the battery fast.

There is no timer event going on. It should go sleep and consume about couple hundreds micro amps.

FYI, I have 8 LEDs attached and it is set to common ground. (to turn off I have to set GPIO high)

Have you tried debugging to see if the device actually goes into PM2 in the latter case?

How can I see the mode using cc debugger?

Hi,

I've been having trouble debugging power modes as well... but one thing you can do is set up breakpoints at hal_sleep.c

In halSleep() function you can see the code that chooses which power mode to go into, and if it's allowed by all tasks.

One more thing you can do is measure the current draw. All power modes have very distinctive consumptions...

PM2 = ~140uA

PM3 = <10 uA

These are numbers that I've measured with my setup, but I believe the documentation states something similar.. Also If using the example software that comes with the chip... I think PM1 is never used.

PM2 current consumption is 1.0 uA, PM3 is 0.5 uA. If your results are higher, then something else on your board is drawing current.
