Hi,

I have brought SensorTag with Devpack, and when through getting started guide. Then Installed Simplelink app to read data from senortag.

Until this everything worked fine.

I just tried to erase the sensortag using smart flash programmer 2, it also worked.

Now I have setup the environment for sensortag development in ccs.

I can't find a clear document to getting started in development, and can I just revert back to sensortag factory program?

Someone in internet told that, by press and hold two buttons in sensortag will revert back the factory program.

But it didn't work for me.

Now when ever I powered sensortag, red glows.

Can someone help me in my development, I am pretty stuck here.

I have development knowledge in cc3200 and msp430. But I am new to sensortag.

Can any one help me?

To get started at sensortag in ccs, you will need to
1. import sensortag both stack and application project.
2. program both stack and application project into sensortag
3. you can modify your application to do what you want and then from that point, you can just program application.

Simplelink academy shows how to get started with project zero, which is a bit different than sensortag. But the way of importing projects are the same, please take a look at it.

Hi Christin,

I have installed BLE stack 2, then from resource explorer I have impoerted sensortag_cc2650stk_app and sensortag_cc2650stk_stack into CCS.

As you said,

1.I have imported both app and stack project.

2.After building both app and stack projects, I burned sensortag_cc2650stk_stack.hex and sensortag_cc2650stk_app.hex in sensortag using smartRF flash programmer 2.

Still the red light glows.

Regarding Project zero, in that link they told that we have to switch CCS in classic view to import simple link academy project.

But I cant find any option to switch my CCS to classic view. They have shown a screenshot to switch view in CCS, I have attached screenshot

Can you tell me where I am stuck?

Hi Jan - if you erased your SensorTag with the flash programmer, you have erased something called the BIM (Boot Image Manager).

You will need to import the BIM project into CCS and build / debug that. The BIM will then be installed (you only need to do this once). After BIM is running you can debug the stack project and the app project and the tag will start properly.

The red light on the sensor tag is a bit of a mystery though - you will see the LED on the XDS110 debugger change from green to red when it's programming / debugging.

From where should I import?

Is it from BLE SDK?

It's described in processors.wiki.ti.com/.../CC2650_SensorTag_User's_Guide . You can import BIM_extflash (for CCS) from $SDK_INSTALL_PATH$\Projects\ble\util\BIM_extflash

I'm lazy and used the resource explorer to get the project:
In CCS go to View->Resource Explorer Classic

Navigate to ble_sdk_2_02_01_18 (or whichever one you are using)
ble_sdk_2_02_01_18->examples->util->bim_extflash->cc2640->bim_extflash

Click "Import the example project into CCS"

Debug the project, then stop debugging. It should start working (the BIM is installed in a different bit of memory to your other projects)

Hi YK,

I am experiencing a similar problem. My SensorTag works as expected when loading provided HEX file using SmartRF flash programmer, however I cannot get it to work with BLE stack 2.2.1 via CCS. It seems to not run or advertise.

I have followed the procedure outline in section "2.6.3.3.3 Compiling and Downloading" of swru393 documentation:

1) Build All "Sensortag_cc2650stk_stack"

2) Build All "Sensortag_cc2650stk_app"

3) Debug/download "Sensortag_cc2650stk_stack"

4) Debug/download "Sensortag_cc2650stk_app"

The procedure above did not work. After reading this posting, I imported, built and downloaded the "BIM_extflash" project via CCS, but this is not working either. As a last attempt I also tried removing the FLASH_LAST_PAGE line as suggested by https://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless_connectivity/bluetooth_low_energy/f/538/p/425368/2067802#pi239031350=1

I also tried importing and running the "simple peripheral" example on my SensorTag using the same procedure as above and it is working fine. So the issue seems to have something to do with the setup of the BIM / OAD.

I would appreciate you swift response as I am facing strict deadlines.

Which compiler version are you using? From memory the only one I could consistently get working with the sensortag app was 5.2.6, whereas the simpleperipheral app isn't anywhere near as fussy.

Can you step through the main() function in the sensortag app and see if it stops?

Otherwise I can only suggest you clean each project, rebuild and debug each one in turn and see if that fixes it.

I cleaned the projects, rebuilt and debugged each one with no luck. It does step through the main function as expected but it does not advertise/show up on app.

Do you revise something but forget to recovery it? I suggest you to remove BLE Stack and reinstall it to build SensorTag example to test again.

Hi YK,

I deleted the BLE stack and workspace folders and re-installed the BLE 2.2.1 stack provided on http://www.ti.com/tool/ble-stack but it did not work.

I downloaded and imported the SenorTag example using CCS resource explorer and it worked right away.

Either I am doing something wrong or the stack advertised on http://www.ti.com/tool/ble-stack is out of date.

I am not sure why reinstall BLE Stack v2.2.1 doesn't work in your case. Anyway, it's good to know it works after you import it from resource explorer.
