TIDC-BLE-TO-WIFI-IOT-GATEWAY: Problems detecting a CC2540 device with a CC2640 set as master

Part Number: TIDC-BLE-TO-WIFI-IOT-GATEWAY
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540, CC2650

Hi!

We have designed our own gateway board based on the TI WiFi - BLE reference design. Our first project is to transfer data from a BLE device using a CC2540. Having the BLE device next to the gateway, everything works fine. The device is discovered and connected. However, by moving the BLE device further away from the gateway it starts to have problems to discover and to connect. This starts already at distances as short as 1 meter. I have made a couple of tests where I have tried to connect a SensorTag based on a CC2650, which works fine. It is detected fine at distances above 10 meters. At a certain stage I was worried that the WiFi could have impact on the BLE performance, however the results showed similar trends. I think the two devices are using different versions on the BLE stack, but I guess they are backwards compatible. Any suggestions to what the problem could be?

Best regards,

Jan Gustav Heber
