CC2541: Star Networks Enabling 10+ Year Coin Cell Battery Life Ref Design questions

Part Number: CC2541
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TS5A3160, TPS62740

Hi,

Recently I have found out about following reference design to extend battery life.

www.ti.com/.../tida-00374

I have plan to use CC2541 in my application.

My questions are as follows:

Q1. Should I use step down converter (such as TPS62740) right after TS5A3160? The reason i ask is because, (if i remember correctly), CC2541 has internal voltage regulator and any voltage higher than 2 V will just dissipate as heat. So, I am guessing, if i use that step down converter, I can save more power? Or any other benefit?

Q2. If i should use, TPS62740 then, what voltage level should i set? I understand that, as per CC2541 data sheet, it operate between 2 V to 3.6V. Should i just set as 2V for TPS62740 or should put just a litter higher such as 2.1V or 2.2V?

Thank you.

Regards,

LB
