CC2540: What hardware and software required to use as a standalone MCU

I am planning to use the CC2540 as a standalone MCU with BLE support. I need about 4 Digital Output pins / One Analog Input pin and of course a UART.

I guess to meet all of above I can make do with the CC2540 only with no additional MCU.

I will need CCS IDE. But what about the hardware to interface the CC2540 to the IDE and how do I interface it ?

( I come with a 8051 / AVR background and am hence studying the TI range of MCUs but still not clear about the way forward. Would love any pointers on the way forward ) Thanks.

Ok just now realised that I don't need the CCS for this but the Smart RF Flash Programmer for this. And also a CC Debugger … right ?

Yes, you will need CC-DEBUGGER and IAR EW8051 for debug/program CC2540 BLE Stack. Flash Programmer is the tool for downloading existing FW hex file into CC2540 through CC-DEBUGGER.

Hi Raghunathan,

You need IAR to compile SW for the CC2540. If you do not have an IAR license you should rather consider using the CC2640R2F, which YiKai recommended in the other thread, since you can then use the free CCS IDE.
