CC2564C: CC2564C : Does assisted HFP mode support multiple NBS at the same time ?

Part Number: CC2564C

Hello

I have a use case where the product using the CC2564C chip should get audio calls from a smartphone and be able to play it internally or send it to an external device (ie : BT speaker).

In the documentation, I've seen this line :

"One WBS connection at a time is supported, and WBS and NBS connections cannot be used simultaneously in this mode of operation."

From what I'm understanding, two NBS connections may be possible but as it's not explicitly confirmed in the text, I prefer to ask confirmation here.

Thank you in advance for your answer.

Regards

  • Hello,

I'm not sure what do you mean by Assisted HFP mode.
There is an A3DP which is assisted A2DP mode (not SCO only ACL)
anyway - two NBS streams can co-exist - however you need to make sure the bandwidth is sufficient (which means use the correct packet types for the SCO connections)

  • Hello,

I'm talking about the assisted HFP mode described in the Detailed description document of the chip :

    www.ti.com/.../cc2564c.pdf

    On page 34 :

"The assisted HFP 1.6 mode of operation implements this WBS feature on the embedded CC2564C coprocessor. That is, the mSBC voice coding scheme and the PLC algorithm are executed in the CC2564C coprocessor rather than in the host, thus minimizing host processing and power. One WBS connection at a time is supported, and WBS and NBS connections cannot be used simultaneously in this mode of operation. Figure 6-15 shows the architecture comparison between the common implementation of the HFP 1.6 profile and the assisted HFP 1.6 solution."

  • Hi,

Thanks for pointing to the specific feature.

You can only use one stream with AHFP.

No multiple streams for this feature.

  • Thank you for you answer. Just one last small question : If AHFP mode support only one stream at a time, what's the point in documentation to tell that "WBS and NBS connections cannot be used simultaneously in this mode of operation" ?
  • Hi,

In order to support both NBS and WBS there is a specific mode (8_16) that supports both of them.
which means you can use both NBS and WBS without the need to reconfigure the chip.

This works well under some basic topology and might cause issues under more complicated topology.
I don't recommend using more than stream at a time using this feature.
