[RTLS] Implementation of AOA is not Bluetooth Core_v5.1 standard

Currently, TI's RTLS require 3 roles to implement AOA, which is "master", "slave", and "passive".

But, Bluetooth Core_v5.1 only require 2 roles, which is "master" and "slave".

Why did TI design it like this ?

When could TI will update the firmware to supporting Bluetooth Core_v5.1 standard AOA Implementation ?

  • Hi,
The RTLS offering is today available on CC2640R2 for evaluation, with compatibility towards the v5.1 implementation. Please note that core feature of AoA for localization is to use triangulation technique, which requires at least 3 devices, hence our introduction of "passive". The fully qualified BT5.1 solution will be available later this year, targeting CC2642 platform.
