CC2541-Q1: Differences to CC2541

I have a working project that uses a CC2541, but really want to be using a part with a higher temperature rating.

The CC2541-Q1 is rated to 105 degrees, whereas the CC2541 is only rated to 85 degrees.

I can't find anything that says these parts are identical, and likewise can't find any description that details any differences between these two devices.

Can I use a CC2541-Q1 in the place of a CC2541?

    I think you can use it.

    I compared the Data sheets and don't observe any difference except  operating Temp Range.

  • Hmmm... that wasn't the answer I was hoping for.

    I also have compared the datasheets (very superficially, as it's really hard to do)

    And there is at least one difference I've found.

    Pin 4 is a NC on the CC2541, but it's a GND pin on the CC2541-Q1

    And it might be a typo, but the pin diagram for the CC2541-Q1 labels the die pad as 'AGND', and the table of pins (in the same document) lists it as 'GND'

    The CC2541-Q1 also makes no mention of the TPS62730 (which I'm using) - that this may just be that automotive devices don't care about low current.

    My concern is that there might be other differences (hardware or software), and why I was expecting any differences to be documented somewhere

  • Hi Pat,

    You have found the only HW difference between the devices. Pin 4 is bonded to ground on the Q1 while it is not connected on the regular device. This change was done to improve ESD robustness on the Q1 device. 

    Otherwise, the differences are only related to qualification and production testing.
