I am looking to purchase this device but looking to add support for an external sensor. The device description suggests that it can be expanded. I cannot seem to find any documentation on how to use the DevPacks to add sensors. Can someone point me to a guide or explain the process.

Hi,

I think the DevPack mentioned in the description refers to http://www.ti.com/tool/CC-DEVPACK-DEBUG which adds debug capability to the SensorTag.

The standard sensor tag comes with around ten sensors.

Alternatively you can use the http://www.ti.com/tool/LAUNCHXL-CC2650 launchpad with on board debug capability and add various booster packs including sensor booster packs to expand its capability for development purposes.

Thank you for the reply! Do you know if it is possible to add sensors using the Debug DevPack? The DevPack contains its own expansion header.

Hi,

I suggest to use CC2650 Launchpad or CC2640R2F Launchpad which has header pins that you can conveniently wire up sensors.

I do not recommend interfacing any sensors to CC2650 SensorTag. Maybe you can if you carefully solder wires to I2C or SPI lines.

I do not mean directly to the sensortag, but adding sensors to the debug devpack. I would prefer using the sensortag since it has prebuilt sensors. Would creating your own devpack be a possible solution?

Yes, it is just a matter of making sure your custom add-on board interfaces properly with the CC2650 SensorTag. So you need to review the pinouts of the CC2650 SensorTag connector.

Launchpad also has sensor board that you can buy with example program. One is BOOSTXL-SENSORS.
