CC2640R2F: indoor location application with Bluetooth 5.1, can we buy LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2 and BOOSTXL-AOA?

Hi Sir/Madam

Our team is interested in indoor location application with Bluetooth 5.1, considering the solution with buying LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2 and BOOSTXL-AOA

Question is：

1. Is it a correct choise to buy and use this 2 module to develop some application for indoor location like Quuppa？（if not，which chip is recommanded？）

2. do CC2640R2F support bluetooth 5.1 and AOA？

3. in TI source page we find that ‘TI decided to move away from Proprietary AoA in order to focus on supporting our current BLE5.1 AoA solution after SDK 3.4’

is it a good choice for us to use this 2 module to develop now or we need to wait for the latest solution

when will the latest BLE solution will come out？

Yes, LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2 with BOOSTXL-AOA can do this. However, I would suggest you to use LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 instead of LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2. For testing BLE AOA, you will need three LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 (or LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2) and one BOOSTXL-AOA. You can refer to for more details.

Hi,

The answer given by YiKai Chen this once is not totally correct.

> CC2640R2 does *not* provide an AOA solution compliant with BLE5.1. The solution provided on CC2640R2 is/was proprietary AOA only compatible with TI devices.

> CC26x2R is the recommended device to develop an RTLS solution. CC26x2R provides a BLE5.1 compliant AOA solution. In addition to evaluate the AOA solution with CC26x2R1, you require only two devices (and one BOOSTXL-AOA).

In summary:

1. You require two LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 and one BOOSTXL-AOA

2. CC2640R2 does not support BLE5.1 compliant AOA. CC26X2R1 supports BLE5.1 compliant AOA.

3. CC26X2R1 is recommended and provides the best solution available today

Thank Clement to correct my reply. But, shouldn’t we need 3 LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 (act as master, passive, and slave) instead of two LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1 ?

YiKai Chen, since SDK 3.30, when using CC26X2R1, only two devices are required to perform RTLS. The slave and the master are mandatory, the passive is optional. For more details, you can consult the SLA lab dedicated to AOA.
