CC2640R2F: Does the CC2640R2F_SDK_4_10_00_10 support connectionless AOA?

Part Number: CC2640R2F
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK,

Hi,

I download the new version SDK of CC2640R2---simplelink_cc2640r2_sdk_4_10_00_10, I want to know whether this version supports connectionless  AOA. And in the demo ,I only see the project  RTLS_PASSIVE, can not find projects RTLS_MASTER or RTLS_SLAVE, do them not need ?

  • simplelink_cc2640r2_sdk_4_10_00_10? I don't see it's available on TI web side. If you are asking about future release, TI won't reveal there roadmap or future plan on E2E forum. You might need to contact TI local sales representative to get TI product roadmap or future plan.

  • Hi,

You can find at TI Web,

    SimpleLink CC2640R2 Software Development Kit

    SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK_4.10.00.10

  • OK. SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK still shows v3.40.00.10 to be downloaded so I thought SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK_4.10.00.10 is not yet available.

  • Hi,

As a supplier of Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) solutions we are committed to making available high quality software stacks with a focus on interoperability and broad market adoption.

In previous Software Development Kits (SDKs), TI introduced, on an experimental basis, a new innovative ranging technology called Time-of-Flight (ToF) together with our BLE Software Stack as a software example to demonstrate one possible option for new ranging technologies. This ToF example technology was based on a proprietary extension demonstrating operation between compatible TI devices only.

In this increasingly connected world, interoperability between different suppliers and systems is a critical value and TI listens to this market and customer requirement. Moving forward, TI has decided to merge our secure ranging efforts onto a standardized solution with focus on broad adaption and interoperability.

As part of this decision to focus on standardized solutions, TI has made the decision to discontinue further development and support of the TI-proprietary ToF and TI-proprietary Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) software examples in the SDKs listed below:

(*) Angle-of-Arrival software examples based on the Bluetooth 5.1 specification are not affected by this change.

We recommend to transition from proprietary Real Time Locating System (RTLS) software examples to the new RTLS software examples based on the Bluetooth 5.1 specification. These examples are included in the SimpleLink™ CC13x2 and CC26x2 software development kit 3.40 or later.

At the same time, we are placing an emphasis on creating a standard for secured ranging technologies and intend to convert the existing technology when these solutions become available.

For further information please contact your local TI sales representative.

    Best regards,

  • Hi again,

In short, connection-less AOA is not yet available (and no communication around connection-less AOA will be done on a public forum). That being said, to start a new RTLS related project, you should definitely go for CC26x2 (not CC2640R2).

    Regards,

  • @, do you mean you won't provide RTLS examples on CC2640R2F from now on and will be focus on providing RTLS examples on CC26x2R using BLE 5.1 or later standard?

Correct! On CC2640R2 only the rtls_passive example will be provided (note: this example is compatible with BLE 5.1). On CC26X2, we will provide all the code compatible with BLE 5.1 (including the AOA examples but not the TOF examples).

    Regards,

  • @Clément , Thanks for confirming.
