CC2540: Does the BLE SDK 1.5 stack add BLE4.2 or 5.0 Support for cc2540

The description of the BLE 1.5 stack states "BLE-STACK is Bluetooth 5.0 qualified for CC2540/CC2541 ". Is that to say the cc2540 supports BLE4.2 and 5.0 functionality ?

We would like to use the cc2540 for an Alexa Gadget, but that requires BLE4.2 because the w/r char payload size is 36bytes which exceeds the 23(?) byte limitation of BLE4.0.

As I know, CC254x doesn’t support BLE 4.2 and 5.0 which you can refer to discussions in . I would suggest you to use CC2640R2 or CC2642R to

achieve this.

Hi YK. The thread you referenced closed in 2015. But earlier this year, TI updated the BLE SDK.

So when TI claims "BLE-STACK is Bluetooth 5.0 qualified for CC2540/CC2541", does that mean a device can be BT5.0 qualified without actually implementing BT5.0 ? It's confusing, but I don't know what else to conclude.

Yes, it’s confusing but BLE 5.0 qualified doesn’t really have to support BLE 5.0 feature.

Hi,

YiKai Chen's suggestion is correct. If you need a device supporting BLE 5.0 features you should rather use CC2640R2F or CC2642R.
