CCS/CC1350: Password to connect BLE device

Part Number: CC1350
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi, i'm using SimplePeripheral example in CCS on CC1350. BLE scanner allows me to connect to my slave BLE device and to write some value but when i'm connecting to it, advertising data stops. And I need this not to happen. Can somebody suggest how it is possible to make password authentication, so that the one who connects does not interrupt the advertising? Thanks for any advice.

P.S or maybe is is possible to continue advertising even somebody was connected to BLE device?

  • Hi Andrey,
I am not sure I understand, when you connect to a device, it is suppose to stop advertising. Unless you want to connect additional devices to it or simply send beacon packets. I am not sure how you think a password authentication will help you, can you elaborate further please?
  • Thanks for reply Lindh! I thought that password will not allow to connect to the device. Now, I understand that I need just to keep sending beacon packets after first connection. Is it possible in simple peripheral example?

  • Hi Andrey,

On the CC1350 you can't keep advertising connectable advertisements, but you can keep sending beacon (non-connectable) advertisements after a connection is made.

Please search simple_peripheral.c for the define "PLUS_BROADCASTER" to see how this is done. To enable, define PLUS_BROADCASTER globally in the project settings.

    Best regards,
    Aslak
  • Hi Aslak,

So, is that means, that it is impossible to connect more than one device to the beacon?
  • Hi Andrey,

I mean, technically you can. I overgeneralized, I'm sorry. There is an example called multi_role for the CC2650 that could also work on the CC1350 BLE stack, which at least in theory should allow you to be a slave to several masters. See github.com/.../ble_examples-2.2

And of course as a master (central) device you can connect to multiple devices. It's just that there aren't that many out of box examples for 1350 and I'd recommend CC1352 for a BLE and sub-1 ghz device. That said, I believe (have not tested) that most of the CC2650 BLE SDK v2.2.x applications can be ported to CC1350 with some elbow grease.

    Best regards,
    Aslak
