BOOSTXL-AOA: The meaning of IQ data collection on master node

Greetings,

As I upgrade the SDK from 3.40 to the newest version 4.40, now I can get raw IQ both from master and passive node, and they match the frame structure well. However, I note: (1). The passive nodes can always collect .csv data, while master node sometimes can sometimes cannot, why does it happens (2), why we need to collection raw iq data on master node, the master node does not communicate CTE with slave node, neither does it equipped with ULA, what are iq data on master node used for? Hi Jet,

I'm not sure I follow your comment on why the master node does raw IQ data collection. This is explicitly what the Bluetooth Spec said the device receiving the CTE should do. Can you further expand on your comments to item (1)?

What does ULA mean? I'm not familiar with that acronym.

Hi,

To reiterate what has been written in a previous thread:

Only the "slave" sends out CTEs. Neither the "master" nor the "passive" sends out CTEs.
Both the "master" and "passive" can sample CTEs.

IQ data sampled by the "master" can be used to calculate the angle of arrival (AoA) of the RF signals sent by the "slave" to the "master".

IQ data sampled by the "passive" can be used to calculate the angle of arrival (AoA) of the RF signals sent by the "slave" and seen by the "passive"

Thanks a lot for the reply. However, master node is not equipped with ULA, it only has one antenna, how can it do AoA ?

Hi,

Well, it's up to you to set a ULA (BOOSTXL-AOA) on the "master" device too ;)
The SimpleLink Academy labs show how to enable/disable CTE sampling on the "master" device. By default, on SDK 4.40 the rtls_master is configured to sample incoming CTE.

great, does it mean it is possible for the setup: master+AoA, passive+AoA and a slave, and we can collect raw IQ on master and passive at the same time.
