CC2500: Receiving sensitivity - 120dbm solution

Part Number: CC2500
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2400, CC1310, CC1120

We have a remote control customer who is looking for a solution with 1200BPS rate and - 120dbm receiving sensitivity. Does Ti have a corresponding solution.

  • CC2500 supports 1.2 kbps but are not able to give a -120 dBm sensitivity, partly because the minimum RX BW is fairly wide. The sensitivity for 2.4 kbps is -104 dBm according to the datasheet.

Note that the noise in the 2.4 GHz in most cases is higher than -120 dBm due to wifi and other traffic on this band meaning that even with a -120 dBm sensitivity they most likely will be unable to see the a practical sensitivity in this range.

Why do they need a -120 dBm sensitivity for a remote control application?

  • It's a field irrigation application. Customers want the distance to be 3km, so they are looking for some solutions with high receiving sensitivity.

  • If they want a 3 km range they should not use CC2400 but a sub 1 GHz product.

Look into CC1120 or CC1310 and ask them to look into https://www.ti.com/tool/RF-RANGE-ESTIMATOR to get an estimate for range.
