RF430FRL152H: Energy harvesting

for the battery-less application, I am using RF430FRL152HEVM board. From the FAQ document of the IC, I can see that it is possible to harvest around 675 uW of power from the RF field which is very low compared with competitor's RF ICs.

I would like to find a way how to source more power from the antenna. In the DLP-RF430BP schematics, I can see that power is harvested directly from the antenna:


My RF430FRL152HEVM board does not have anything like that. Is this approach possible on the RF430FRL152H? If not - are there any other possible ways to harvest more energy? I am trying to achieve around 1-2mA@3.3V.

    yes, this approach to harvest more energy is also possible for the RF430FRL152H. Please see the following document chapter 4.2. This is for the RF430CL330H but can be used also in your case. If it is possible to get the required 1-2mA depends on many factors, like antenna size, coupling, reader and so on and has to be evaluated in your system. From my experience, I would say, it should be possible. Due to the internal limiter circuit in the RF input the 3.3V is hard to reach. If this is mandatory, a low power DC/DC converter can be added (TLV61225 for 3.3V).
