TRF7970A: NFC P2P example between two TRF7970A

I am working with the TRF7970A NFC transceiver BoosterPack and the MSP-EXP430F5529LP Launchpad. I sucessfully got the card emulation and the Reader Mode running, but what I would actually like to do is using the P2P between two TRF7970A. Is there any example code available that could help me? SLOA192B only mentions P2P with an mobile phone and one TRF7970A. Just trying with TI NFC Tool and the example code did not work for me.

Hi Vanessa,

P2P mode can be tested with two equal sets of the DLP-7970ABP + MSP-EXP430F5529LP and the NFC Tool GUI. The NFC Tool GUI has to be started separate for each TRF7970A reader set.

Basically this is the setup used. I tried again after your post and suceeded for passive p2p, but still do not get a stable connection for active p2p. Unfortunately I#m more interested in active p2p for now.

I tried the Active P2P mode with two sets of DLP-7970ABP + EXP430F5529LP and can transfer data with the NFC Tool GUI at 106kbps and 212kbps. At 424kbps I did not get a connection. In the P2P mode the distance between the antennas is critical. I could establish the connection at a distance of ~2cm.

Ok, bad news for me. I mainly tried 106 kbs, but only suceeded with passive P2P. Active P2P should work at least at the same distance as passive, shouldn't it? I usually work within a range of 1-2 cm (the metalt shielding cans almost touched each other during my last tries). Is it possible that I followed some older SW Link or so? Because what I also observed, that if I enalble e.g. NFC_LLCP_DEBUG, the software does not compile anymore due to missing LLCP_LAYER_DATA definition.

...saying that active P2P is very timing sensitive, and passive P2P would be more robust.

Maybe you should consider using passive P2P for your application if possible.

Hi Helfried, I saw this post before I wrote my one. Currently we are really interested in seeing active P2P running on the TI hardware setup and since you could get it to run with the same hardware setup, this should be possible, shouldn't it? Could you please provide a link to the software you used?

active P2P is possible, but not not very reliable.
