What is the difference between Smart RF Studio packet interval option and IFS interval? How both are related in BLE?
Hello Sreejith,
Inter Frame Space (IFS) is the consecutive packets on the same channel index set by the BLE spec at 150 us and cannot be changed. Smart RF Studio packet interval is the time in between packets using the BLE PHY which are transmitted over-the-air for testing purposes and cannot be reduced to less than 1 ms.

Ryan
Hi Ryan
Thanks for the reply. Can you explain the difference between Consecutive and Time in between packets in you reply?
Are you saying that we do not need to consider IFS during testing time and with packet interval option we can change IFS during testing?
Thanks
Sreejith
This is the difference between the BLE spec and BLE PHY usage. Smart RF Studio 7 will not be able to violate IFS through its packet intervals while testing BLE PHY.

Ryan
Hi Ryan
How do we maintain IFS and Packet interval time at the same time? Sorry, I am not able to follow you.
Thanks
Sreejith
BLE Spec: There is a mandatory 150μs delay that must be between each packet sent. This is known as the Inter Frame Space.
Smart RF Studio 7: There is a limitation of 1ms interval between each packet sent.
Thus while using Smart RF Studio 7 you will not be able to violate the IFS requirement from the BLE spec.

Ryan
