CC1352R: How to power if not using the radio

Part Number: CC1352R

Using the CC1352R in an application that is not using the radio (long story). It's a battery operated system so would like to NOT power any part of the radio that doesn't require it. I'm wondering what to do with the DCDC_SW, VDDR and VDDR_RF pins. I'm planning on powering VDDS, VDDS2, VDDS3 and VDDS_DCDC (assuming that the VDDS_DCDC pin requires power even if not using the radio).

  • Hi,

I would power the CC1352R as used in the standard ref design but to leave out the passives for the RF front-end. More info on the powering of the chip can be found in https://www.ti.com/lit/swra640 section 11.

  • Thanks for the reply Richard, but I'm still 'fuzzy' on what to leave disconnected. Not totally sure what comprises the RF front-end. It seems to me that I'd want to put power on VDSS, VDSS2 & VDSS3. Not sure about VDDS_DCDC - whether its only for RF or not. Then, I would leave DCDC_SW, VDDR and VDDR_RF open (disconnected). Also, I'd put the cap on DCOUPL. As I said, I'm not sure about VDDS_DCDC as the 'Global LDO Mode' has it connected to power, but then they have the DC/DC Converter crossed out, so why power it? Here's an image of what I'm thinking:

The 'External Regulator Mode' shows 'VDDS_DCDC' and 'DCDC_SW' being grounded, but then says this is only for the 'CC26x0' devices.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi,

I would still keep the DCDC components to have a much lower current consumption. If current consumption is not an issue then these can be removed. VDDR and VDDR_RF is still needed. The amount of VDDS decoupling could be reduced as well.

The text in the app note with " this is only for the 'CC26x0'" is incorrect. This is the case for all CC13xx and CC26xx devices.
