CC2500: RF Design

Part Number: CC2500

Hi Experts,

I need some specific specifications develop in CC2500. Specifications list given below. Can you guide me how to develop in CC2500?

1) set Transmit power        :-          +30dbm or more than +30dbm

2) set Air data rate             :-           up to: 500kbit/s.

3) set Receive Sensitivity   :-          >111 dBm at 12kbps, 105 at 64 kbps and 98 at 200 kbps

4) Frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) support or not?

5) set Automatic antenna diversity switching on a packet basis in real-time. is it possible?

6) inbuilt Transmit low pass filter available or not?

7) RX SAW(Surface Acoustic Wave Filters) filter support or not?

8) Rx BAW(Bulk acoustic wave) filter support or not?

9) Point to Point, or Multipoint networking support or not?

Best Regards,
Darshan

  • Hi Darshan,

Please be patient as the SimpleLink hardware experts are on leave until January 3rd.  I highly recommend that you reference the datasheet for most of this information.

    1) Maximum programmable output power on the CC2500 transceiver is +1 dBm so you will need to connect a range extender such as the CC2592 on the front end.

    2) 2-FSK and MSK modulations support a maximum data rate of 500 kBaud.  Data rate is programmed by the MDMCFG2.DRATE_M and MDMCFG4.DRATE_E configuration registers as explained in Section 12 of the datasheet.

    3) Receiver sensitivity varies with data rate being used.  It is measured at -104 dBm at 2.4 kBaud, -99 dBm at 10 kBaud, and -89 dBm at 250 kBaud.

    4) Frequency hopping is supported as detailed in Section 31.2 of the datasheet.

    5) I don't believe this is possible based on my current understanding of the transceiver parameters and the application description provided.

For the other questions, external circuitry is possible but may not be necessary given the on-chip frequency synthesizer and receiver channel filter.

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

Good Morning and Happy new Year.

waiting for response from the Ti Expert side.

    Best Regards,

  • HI,

In addition to Ryan's reply, please see this app note for antenna diversity.

CC2500 does not support automatic diversity but it can be implemented in SW. www.ti.com/.../swra317

You can develop your HW based on already available CC2500 reference design. We can also review it for you.  SIMPLELINK-2-4GHZ-DESIGN-REVIEWS

Also, it will be helpful to use SmartRF studio to test/ measure all RF related aspects on your HW.
