CC8530: Configuring the TAS3251

Part Number: CC8530
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TAS5713, TAS3251, TAS2562

CC853x support,

Our customer is starting a design with CC8530 sending audio to TAS3251.  They need to configure the TAS3251 and adjust volume levels on the fly.  The TAS3251 does not have an example configuration, while the TAS5713 does.  Do we have any recommendations for configuring the TAS3251 and adjusting volume?

If needed, they can figure out another way to configure the TAS3251 for the initial configuration, but they would really like to be able to adjust the volume.

I found a similar question on the e2e related to the TAS2562, and the response says it's not possible.  However it's not clear exactly why.  Is it possible to adjust volume with the TAS3251?

Thanks,

Darren

  • Hi Darren,

The prior E2E thread mainly dealt with multiple device configurations operating consecutively, whereas this request appears to focus on new device support.  Texas Instruments\PurePath Wireless Configurator\audio_devices.  The customer can copy one the existing *.ppwadd designs from *\Texas Instruments\PurePath Wireless Configurator\audio_devices and modify it for their TAS3251 device instead.  The PurePath Wireless Configurator supports Volume Control from either a Local (i.e. buttons) or Remote (i.e. host) source during run-time.

  • Hi Ryan,

The customer tells me there's no documentation on how to write that xml file.  He sent me one of the existing files, and I don't see things listed by register address, so there must be some meaning tied to each of the attr_spec names, which is not obvious.

They have always used example files generated by TI in the past.

Is there a document somewhere that would help?

    Thanks,
    Darren

  • Inside the PurePath Wireless Configurator software, have the customer navigate to Help -> PurePath Wireless Configurator and locate "Audio Device Definition Files" under "Configurator Overview".  They might also be interested in the "Audio Device Customization Panel" section.
