CC2651R3: RF Modem

Part Number: CC2651R3
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650, CC2652R, SIMPLELINK-CC13XX-CC26XX-SDK, , LP-CC2651P3

Does the CC2651 have the exact same RF modem as the CC2650 and CC2652?

  • Hi Lucas,

Are you asking for something comparable to the CC2650MODA?  Please refer to 3P-WIRELESS-MODULES, the BDE-MP2651R3A may be an option.

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • Hello Ryan,

They are looking to use the CC2651 IC..

First they are concerned about the RF modem. They want to confirm we are using the same RF modem for the CC2650 (Chameleon) and the CC2652 (Agama).

I look forward to your comments!

    Thank you

  • Hi Lucas,

You will need to be much more specific about the exact RF modems being referred to.  TI typically no longer develops modems internally, but if the third-party resource has certified their hardware through the FCC then they should be suitable for radio applications.  If they are curious about the SOC RF core, then there have been several changes to the CC26X2 from the CC26X0.  Once again, the customer would need to be much more specific concerning what features they are interested in comparing.

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • There was a misunderstanding of the language. Instead of RF modem, the customer was referring to the RF core.

Our customer has a proprietary wireless protocol they were able to run on the CC2650 RF core using certain patches. Will they be able to transfer their protocol to the CC2651 RF core easily or will this require additional patches?

  • Additional patches will be required to migrate software from the CC2650 to the CC2652R.  Please refer to the various Migration Guides provided on TIREx for the SIMPLELINK-CC13XX-CC26XX-SDK.

    Ryan

  • Ryan,

They have used their protocol on both the CC2652R and the CC2650, this is not the concern. They are looking to migrate to the CC2651 IC and would like to know if this will require additional patches?

From my non-expert view, it looks like the CC2652 and the CC2651 are very similar in internal architecture. How difficult will the transition from the CC2652 to the CC2651 be?

  • This is explained in the Running Software Examples on the CC13x1x3 or CC26x1x3 Guide, where peripherals which are not supported for this device are listed. The customer should import a similar LP-CC2651P3 project example, make the recommended changes to support the CC2651R3, and migrate their application changes accordingly. Have the customer try this approach and submit questions for any issues they encounter.

    Regards, Ryan
