RI-TRP-DR2B: Reading Malfunction of RI-TRP-DR2B-40

Part Number: RI-TRP-DR2B

Tool/software:

We have identified an issue with some units of the RI-TRP-DR2B-40 shipped to customers, where reading is not possible within approximately 1.5 cm of the antenna, as detailed in the attached PDF.
Could you please confirm the possible causes for this issue?
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.TI製DR2B不具合品 読取り範囲.pdf

  • Hello E2E.

When can I expect your reply?

The customer is requesting an urgent response.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but we appreciate your cooperation.

  • Hi Motoda,

Apologies for the delay as we have limited support for this part and was trying to see who can help. Some information below:

I think some additional information is needed on the reader and antenna you are using. It is possible that there is a "hole" where you essentially have a dead zone due to the way the magnetic field is generated. I believe I have seen this with LF RFID in the past.

Did this work at 1.5cm in the past and a new batch of tags caused it to stop working? Or is this a new issue you are seeing. You may want to try and tune the antenna back to see if the performance improves. If this does that means you may have marginality in the match and thus may need to adjust accordingly or try tighter tolerance matching components.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Riz

  • Hello Riz,

    Thank you for replying.

It's happening with just one new tag. It was not functioning within a 1.5 cm range from the start.

We used some antennas, but all results are same.

We also compared the resonant frequency with the good products, but the score was same, so we cannot guess the reason.

    Best regards,

    Motoda

  • Hello E2E,

What is the status of this response?

It has already been over a month since the first inquiry.

I kindly request your prompt response.

    Best regards,

    Motoda

  • Hi Motoda,

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Unfortunately there is very limited support for these devices. Can you clarify if this is happening on a single new tag or on all tags within the new tag. That is it 100% failure rate for the new design, or just 1 failure and that's it.

I would also suggest that if you had a previous product that worked with a particular antenna to try the same antenna in the new product. Also ensure that the antenna is tuned properly. Other that this this is my suggestions that I can provide on this issue.

    Thanks,

    Riz

  • Hello Riz,

    Sorry for late reply.

Thanky you for your suggestion. This is happening on a single new tag, and we use the same antenna in the new tag that worked with other tags.

  • ok thanks for the info. in this case in seems is on a single tag, so its hard to be sure the exact issue. I don't really have any other suggestions at this time other than ensuring the antenna is tuned and no manufacturing / assembly issue.

    Thanks,

    Riz
