TRF7970A NFC transceiver tuning

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF7970A

Dear ALL,

The connection of an NFC antenna and NFC transceiver (TRF7970A) is made by TX_OUT/GND, i.e., one terminal of the antenna is connected directly to ground.

For other NFC transceivers such as MLX90132 (Melexis), we have two independent floating (not grounded) connections TX1/TX2 for the same purporse, and I guess this has to be with the tuning for noise reduction.

Which of these two approaches are more powerful regarding impedance matching and noise reduction?

Can we use a two independent connections for the TRF7970A?

At our application is much easier to use two independent connections for the antenna.

Best Regards,

Antonio Stenio (Panasonic Co.)

  • Hello Antonio,

The TRF7970A transceiver only supports a single ended connection to the antenna.

Can you explain what factors make the two independent connections for the antenna easier ?

    Best regards,

    Erick M.

  • Hi Erick,

    Thanks for your answer.

In that case, it seems that we need to change our mechanical design, because it's not so easy for us to connect the antenna terminal to ground plane.

Since many other NFC transceiver IC use this "two floating connection" approach, my main question remains : what is the difference between "single ended connection" and "two independent connection" of the antenna in terms of noise reduction and impedance matching?

To be honest, we don't have much experience with NFC antenna design.

    Best Regards,
