CC2500 pcb thickness changes and effect

Hi,

All

I am designing exactly what is on CC2500EMK reference design but that design is 62" design

What I am concerned about is I have very limited space so can I make this board 31" board and using the other criteria same 1oz copper and 6mil trace width and 6 mil spacing and 2 layer board.

Is there going to be any effect due to this change ? and what are the other things I have to consider if I am making this change?

This reference design uses 0.032": www.ti.com/.../swrr016. Follow this ref design for the RF part (RF_P/N towards the antenna). For IO lines you can use 6 mil width/ spacing.

Thanks for quick response.

I have other question about shielding on the design. We are planning to get this FCC certified.

So for the better chance what parts of the chip you can suggest to shield? Just the CC2500 we have to shield or balun network has to be shielded as well?

And What would be the significance of the shield because I see you have used shield for your reference design of CC2540/CC2541 design but not for CC2500 . So is it necessary to use the shield?

We don't use shield for any of our 2.4 GHz reference designs. Could you please point out why you think a shield is used?

Hey TER,

I am referring to the CC2538+CC2592 ref design. And the reason I believe we need shield is because we are going to go for FCC certification and I strongly believe that it will increase the chances to get it certified that's the main reason and we also don't want any outside parameters to affect the performance.

Please give your comments I would really appreciate it.

With a range extender and maximum output power you would need a shield but not for CC2500 standalone. If you want to play safe the type of shield we use is in the BOM list for the reference designs that uses it.
