CC2533 or CC2534 RF4CE SoC. IR decode for Set-top box

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2533

Hi,

Our customer is gerbering out a set-top box design next week with our media processor and TI CC2534 (I could only find CC2533 in TI site).

The design is required to have RF4CE for remote control and voice command, and also be able to receive traditional IR (CLIP protocol)...so support dual RF and IR remote.

CC2533 data sheet states "IR generation" and "Remote Control Target and Device", my interpretation is that it supports either remote control (Tx) and box (Rx) for RF4CE, but only remote control (Tx) for IR. Is it correct?

If IR decode is not supported by HW, has anyone implemented software decode using the integrated 8051 for either CLIP or NEC IR protocol?

Any other TI device can do both RF4CE and IR decode?

Currently, IR signal is going into our media processor that seems to be running out of bandwidth to handle IR decode among other tasks (on our reference design). IR decode priority is relatively low among other tasks, so IR code miss can happen quite often.

Please reply asap, as we need to inform our customer whether to route the IR signal to CC2534 instead.

Thanks,

Jonson Au
