TIDA-00217: Trying to read the NDEF message from NFC-explore

Hello guys,

I have fabricated the PCB boards according to reference design mentioned in www.ti.com/.../tida-00217

I have chosen a NFC-reader as Explore-NFC which is compatible with raspberry pi. I notice that the RF430CL330H follows Type 4B NFC protocol. I faced two problems when I try to read the TIDA00217 boards with explore NFC.

1) My UID is dynamically changing after polling two times.

2) I was able to read NDEF message from all the NFC tags like MIFARE-Ultralight, ISO14443 Type 4a, Type 2 tags. But I am not able to read NDEF message from TIDA-00217 board. The same firmware is used as mentioned in the website.

I see the Temperature data is stored in FRAM. But is the temperature message is in NDEF?

Has any one interfaced RF430CL330H with explore-nfc?

Hello Manoj,

We have not interfaced the RF430CL330H with explore-nfc and I am not familiar with it at all.

My guess is the changing UID is causing the issue. You can also double check the board works by trying to read it with an NFC-Enabled smartphone.

You can read the contents for sure with TI hardware such as the example described here which needs an MSP-EXP430F5529LP and a DLP-7970ABP: http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slou452

Hello Ralph,

I had tried reading the boards from smartphone and I am getting a stable output. (Temperature in Celcius and Temperature in Fahrenheit). But with NFC explore it's going inside the subroutine of NDEF message function but not printing the message. And also the UID is changing.

Does each RF430CL330H ICs have a specific UID? Is it pre-defined?

Hello Manoj,

No the UID is not pre-defined, it is randomly generated at power-up and then changes at an interval - I can't remember exactly what that interval is but I think it's around 1 second.

Hello Ralph,

In order to read the NDEF mesage in explore-NFC, NDEF message should be "TLV+NDEF type+ payload" Format. Is this the same Format being used in RF430CL330H?

Hello Manoj,

The NDEF message loaded into the RF430CL330H is user defined, so you have to ensure the message properly conforms to NDEF standards. If you are using the TI example code for TIDA-00217, then the answer is yes that is the format we use. Our example code follows the official NFC Forum NDEF specifications for the NDEF message contents.
