RF430CL330H: Possibility for combined battery/battery-less design with data stored on FLASH

Part Number: RF430CL330H
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F2272, , MSP430FR6035

Hi,

I am developing a data storage tag using the MSP430F2272 MCU, some sensors and the RF430CL330H as a wireless interface.

I have the data stored on flash memory (AT45DB641E). My question is it possible to retrieve this data as well to power the MCU host, the RF430CL330H, and the flash memory from RF? Or do you I have to use FRAM? The problem with FRAM is that I need a large capacity (64MB), something FRAM does not offer.

I have looked at TIDA-00230 battery-less design as well to Frequently Asked Questions for RF430CL33xH Devices (Rev. A)

  • Hello Ali,

I can't comment on the capability to use Flash Memory with RF as we have never tested that. It would depend on the current draw of the memory and the amount of RF energy from your reader device.

However, I will contest your issue with FRAM MCU's! MSP430 has options to enable what you need. For example, the MSP430FR6035 has 128 kB of FRAM. I would recommend reviewing their portfolio in more detail. You should have no issue finding suitable devices from there.
