RF430F5978EVM: driver for Microreader and access point not installable on Win 10 !!!

Part Number: RF430F5978EVM

We received the EVM and tried to install the SW on a Win10 PC.

Everything went smooth, but running the demo does not detect any of the above devices !!

Checking in the device manager shows standard MS drivers installed ?!?

Trying to install the driver supplied with the kit does not work, as win10 refuses to install unsigned drivers !!!

How to resolve this ?  Are there win10 compatible drivers somewhere ??

Regards

Benno

  • Hello Benno,

I'll have one of my colleagues look into this more during the week but I am able to run the SW on my Win 10 machine. However if the problem is with driver signing, I don't think we ever updated the driver for Win 10 and I doubt we would do so given the age of the demo and EVM. But I will have someone with more experience with the tool look into that aspect further and comment about driver signing.

  • Hello Benno,

for this product we don't supply updated signed drivers for Win10, but it is possible to use the old driver.

This is no problem because the supplied "drivers" are only INF files which instructs windows how to handle the device. The problem with the standard MS driver is, that the devices are not named and the GUI is using these names to find the devices. In the Windows Device Manager the devices should look like this:

The unsigned drivers can be install but need windows to be instructed to accept this. There are many instructions on  the web how to do this.

I found this one for instance:

    https://www.maketecheasier.com/install-unsigned-drivers-windows10/

When you did this you are able to update the drivers with the one (INF files) supplied with our software.

Go to the windows device manager (windows-key + X), select the device -> Update driver -> Browse my computer -> Let me pick from List -> Have Disk and then go to the INF file ( C:\Program Files (x86)\RF430F5978EVM\driver).

Because both devices have the name with the standard MS divers, it would be best to insert the devices one after the other for easy identification.

  • Hello Helfried,

we tried all mentioned methods, but to no avail :-(

First one gives a blue screen, the others always tell 'an error has happend during installation ..' ...

We took a look at the .inf files and it seems that some of the files mentioned are not present on our system ...

    The system is an up-to-date Win10 pro 64-bit .....

    Any other ideas ???

    Regards

    Benno

  • Hello Benno,

not clear what you mean with all mentioned methods, because there is only one :-)

I have put together a document with screenshots of all steps to install the drivers.

This worked well on a few Win10 64 Bit PCs which I use.

  • Hello Helfried,

the link you supplied lists 3 different methods for installing unsigned drivers ...

But you win :-)  It worked now !!

Dont' know why the bluescreen happend on the exactly same procedure this morning ??

With the demo now working, maybe other questions will pop up ;-)
