TRF7970A: Expected product availability

Part Number: TRF7970A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529, MSP430G2553

We are looking at using the TRF7970A in a new design. I see that it is listed as an active component but wanted to see if there is any possibility of it going EOL or being replaced in the near future. From the dates on the datasheet it appears to have been around 8 years since the part originally released.

  • Hello Arlber,

While we don't discuss details of product life cycles/roadmap on E2E the TRF7970A, while it is an older device, is still our latest NFC transceiver device that was released and all the TRF79xx IC's remain Active.

Also, while I can't say for sure how things would be handled (not my call), but I would anticipate these devices would be placed as NRND before they are fully EOL'd as well, and likely starting with the older devices first.

  • Hi Ralph,

I appreciate the response. Do you know who I would be able to contact with a similar question about the MSP430F23x0 series processors?

    Regards,

    Arlber

  • Hello Arlber,

You could ask on the MSP430 E2E forum I suppose but generally specifics regarding these questions are handled offline for all product lines so the level of response you get on E2E may not be enough to base a decision on.

FYI our latest examples use MSP430's like the MSP430G2553 or MSP430F5529 depending on how much memory space the application needs. If you are considering using the F2370 I would look to port the G2553 code to it as the example code we had provided for the F2370 was not that good and even had some bugs - which is why it has been largely removed from the web.
