CC2420: TX signal strength difference between chips

Part Number: CC2420

My customer product base on CC2420 has MP many years. They report the TX signal strength in new batch board measurement is lower 2~3dB than old batch board.  They test hundreds boards with almost same result.

Customer say their hardware board is same without modified. They also try exchange the new and old batch CC2420 device in a same board for verification, and double confirm the TX signal strength is better if sold the old batch device, and TX signal strength is lower if sold the new batch device.

Below are the picture for both old and new batch CC2420, may we know if there are something change or need notice between two batch device?

  • Could you share the statistics what you have measured with the previous batch and when measured on the new batch in addition to which power setting that is used?

I would expect some variation in tx output power, I need to see the data and the settings to determine if this is as expected or not.

The issue could be closed now, customer removed the external PA circuit then validated the only TX pin power almost same in new and old batch CC2420. They agree the CC2420 should be not problem, although they still need investigate why external PA show difference power output with new and old batch CC2420.
