CC8531: How can external MCU control CC8531's GIOs?

Part Number: CC8531
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2453

Hello, warmhearted engineers. I would like to consult these questions more specific .

  1. Can I use external MCU to control CC8531's GIOs within host-controlled mode? Should I use EHIF command to control it?
  2. And what should I do to configure the CC8531 through PPWC tool
  3. Which demo should I use, I just found a CC8531_software that use MSP430G2453 as MCU to control CC8531.

Thank you. Have a nice day!

  • Hi Sean,

    1) yes, you would use the EHIF commands to interface with the CC8531 in host-controlled mode. These commands only allows you to read the IO state, not control it (only in the test image you could do this).

    2) Not sure what you are asking here, just general configuration or flashing?

    3) Again not sure what you are going for here. Demoes are connected to a particular hardware. I would need you to make clear which CC8531 hardware you are using before I could give any advice on this.

  • Hi M-W,

Thanks for your reply, I apologize for my inaccurate expression. :(

The second and the third questions I asked are based on the first question, it just a kind of structure like "if then".

    1. After read the "CC85xx Family User's Guide", I've known that the first demand about controling CC8531's GIO output state cannot be satisfied.
    2. But now I've learnt how to configure the device with PPWC, so the second question is done.
    3. The last question I asked because I got an unknown software about CC8531 and MSP430G2453. Then I looked through the TI official website and E2E forum but cannot found any sdk about CC8531. Is all program work done by PPWC(without source code)? If not, there is any other way to program CC8531?

    Best wishes,

    SeanOY

  • Hi Sean,

The configuration of the CC8531 image is only done using the PPWC tool, there is no SDK available for it. I have personally not seen any MSP demos for the host-controller application but that does not mean they do not exist, feel free to share a link if you have one :)

  • Hi M-W,

So it's no wonder that I couldn't find it ^v^. Thank ank you!

I upload this unknown demo here if anyone is interested in it.
