I2C type LCD's supported by CC2530?

Hi, I'm planning to order cheap 16x2 LCD's that is run by the I2C serial protocol. I'm planning to use them as user interface for remote control purposes in a ZigBee environment. Unfortunately, as I saw in my CC2530's specs, I could not see an I2C supported serial interface.

Could the CC2530's 2 USART interfaces be converted into I2C interfaces? CC2530 has 2 USART I/F's that can be used as either UART or SPI mode. I actually could not see an I2C mode.

Is there a way maybe that these LCD's and USART interfaces can communicate with each other? I can see that they are run by the I2C protocol.

Hi Jonathan

Have you considered CC2533 for your application? CC2533 holds most of the CC2530 functionality but also include an I2C interface.

I2C with CC2530 can be implemented in SW by bit banging on general purpose IO pins.

Yes Tor-inge, i've also considered the CC2533... But as I saw it has less memory than the CC2530.... considering I will be using it as an End Device in a ZigBee network where i'll be using Z-stack using probably a HA Profile Stack or maybe a Smart Energy Profile Stack, would the memory requirements fit in?

You are right unfortunately the CC2533 don’t hold enough flash to be a ZigBee end device.

To the best of my knowledge there are no I2C bit bang code examples for CC2530. However in http://www.ti.com/litv/zip/swrc021f there is an example (Lcd.c) that you can use as a starting point. This code is used to control LCD display through i2c on TI SmartRF04EB. The code runs on CC2510 that hold the same 8051 core as CC2530.
