RF430-TMPSNS-EVM: can't read or write data from RF430-TMPSNS-EVM

Part Number: RF430-TMPSNS-EVM

Hi,

I have correctly connected the trf790aevm with my computer. Then  I use the RF430FRL15XH GUI Interface ,though it shows already connected ,I can't read or write data from RF430-TMPSNS-EVM.

I didn't power the RF430-TMPSNS-EVM by battery.Is this a reaason ?

Can you give me some suggestion?

  • Hello Wallace,

you do not need a battery at the RF430-TMPSNS-EVM to communicate with the tag.

At the TR7970AEVM board are a bunch of LEDs which will show you when a tag is detected in the field and which standard it follows.
This polling mode is active when the TRF7970AEVM is just freshly connected to the power without using the GUI.
After using the GUI this mode is inactive.

For a test just power the reader, place the RF430-TMPSNS-EVM near to the reader antenna and check if the LED ISO15693 will light.

You should also be able to read the tag with a smartphone.

If nothing of the above will work, I have to assume the tag has a defect or the memory content is corrupted.

    Best regards,
    Helfried
  • Hi ,Helfried
when I use ISO5693 card ,the TRF7970AEVM will light .But when the RF430-TMPSNS-EVM near to the reader antenna,it didn't light.
what should I do to test whether it is broken?
    yours
    Wallace
  • Hello Wallace,

you can check if the voltage VDDH is present, which is the rectified RF.
Please measure, when the tag is in the field, if between TP2 (GND) and TP14 (VDDH) are at least 1.8V.
If you don't have this voltage your resonance circuit is not ok or the chip is drawing to much power.

If that is ok then maybe the memory content is corrupted which can only be restored by the JTAG interface.

    Best regards,
    Helfried
  • Hi ,Helfried
I have read some user guide about jtag ,but I still don't know how to connect the RF430-TMPSNS-EVM with msp-fet.
Could you give me some suggestions in details? What's more ,does the codes in RF430-TMPSNS-EVM same with the one in RF430FRL15xH Default Projects? Is that okay to program the RF430-TMPSNS-EVM by CCS ? Which version is the best?
Last but not the least,I have design a board with RF430FRL152H ,but with the RF filed ,the voltage between GND and VDDH is 1.77V.
    what should I do ?
    thank you !
    yours
    Wallace
  • Hello Wallace,

the RF430-TMPSNS-EVM is not a good base to work with the JTAG interface. The JTAG programming tool is not able to work with the low voltage of 1.5V needed for the RF430FRL152H. You will need level shifters in between.
When doing a development with the RF430FRL152H it is best to start with the RF430FRL152HEVM which has the JTAG interface onboard.

If your designed board just works like the RF430-TMPSNS-EVM you will not need to program the device, the RF430-TMPSNS-EVM works with the ROM code in the device. As long as the memory content gets not corrupted it is possible to use the "over the air" programming if you want to load own software.

In case you want to use the JTAG, take the latest CCS version for programming which is 9.xx.

Regarding the VDDH voltage, is your resonance circuit tuned correctly to the 13.56MHz? Do you have any load at the device?

    Best regards,
    Helfried
  • HI,helfried

    this is my resonance circuit.

this is the parameters of my antenna

Besides,I have two 1k  resistor bridge powered by RF430FRL152H as load.

Could you give  me some advice ? I am out of desperation !

    yours

    Wallace

  • Hello Wallace,

if your coil has the calculated inductance, then the caps have the correct value for the resonance frequency of 13.56MHz.
A assume your coil is an air coil because of the µr = 1 and is not a PCB.

Does you circuit still not respond to the reader or are you concerned about the VDDH voltage that is too low?

    Best regards,
    Helfried
