TRF7963A: Crystal selection

Part Number: TRF7963A

The customer uses TRF7963A with their application.
Sometimes, they faces problem that TRF7963A can not read tag.

A tag used in their application is NTAG213.

Our customer uses ABM8G-13.560MHZ-18-D2Y-T from Abracon with TRF7963A.

At least, we want to confirm that ABM8G-13.560MHZ-18-D2Y-T would be accepted as a crystal for TRF7963A.

Do you see any problem to use ABM8G-13.560MHZ-18-D2Y-T with TRF7963A?

Hello,

I checked the datasheet for that crystal and I can see no problem using it.

For the specified crystal load cap of 18pF it would require C1/C2 of 27pF and a proper layout.

Let me ask you one more question.

A crystal the customer uses has +-30ppm as frequency stability.

Considering +-20ppm frequency tolerance, I think this part could be 50ppm which is out of range from recommendation.
(Recommended freq tolerance is 20ppm according to datasheet.)

Do you think this violation would be never accepted?
Could it be possible to be a root cause of error at reading tag?

Hello,

no, this can not be the root cause. For the device itself it is not a problem but the ISO standards have to be fulfilled.

For the ISO14443A standard a carrier frequency of 13.56MHz +-7kHz is specified.
