CC8531: CC8531 communication range and RF interference issues

Part Number: CC8531
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2590

Hi TI Team,

We are designing a wireless microphone product using CC8531+CC2590 respectively . Our solution (running at autonomous mode)  manages to achieve a communication distance over 250M in open area. The range starts to drop significantly to about 70M in office area. However, we noticed that the communication range further drops to about 15M when the solution has enabled bi-directional voice communication. We would like to know if there is any parameters that we can further optimize on wireless PUREPATH CONFIGURATOR so as to improve the range performance. Our expectation is to achieve a communication range not less than 30M for bi-directional voice configuration.

Apart from the range issue, we also aware that CC8531 is poor at anti-interference as its range performance drops significantly under noisy environment. Is there any tuning we can do on PUREPATH CONFIGARATOR to optimize the built-in frequency hopping scheme, so as to make the system more robust and less sensitive to noisy environment? Thank very much.

Best regards,

Peter

  • Hi Peter,

It sounds like you have been able to develop HW with very good RF performance. 70 m indoors is impressive!

For optimum performance with bi-directional communication, I would recommend trying:

    • Using mono headset with microphone input (1/1) to reduce the number of audio channels
    • Using SLAC
    • Selecting the lowest sampling rate and highest latency.
    • 5 Mbps datarate - allows more retries if packets are dropped.

For interference there is unfortunately not much you can do in terms of configuration.

    Regards,
    Fredrik
