LAUNCHXL-CC1352R1: Unexpected Range Test Result

Hi there,

I recently did a range test with 2 CC1352R1 Launchpad.

I followed the steps shown in this video: https://youtu.be/mR17rNuwxrk

I figured out that the transmission frequency used in these sample projects is 868 MHz by modifying the sample project, adding extra info from the function EasyLink_getFrequency().

And also got the info that LAUNCHXL-CC1352R1 has a built-in PCB antenna already from this article: https://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless-connectivity/sub-1-ghz-group/sub-1-ghz/f/sub-1-ghz-forum/939167/launchxl-cc1352r1-sub-1-ghz-antenna/3468398#3468398

I had 2 laptops connect to the 2 launchpads respectively, monitoring data from the 2 launchpads through the serial ports.

And I found out the transmission distance was only like 4 ~ 8 meters. I was quite surprised by how short it was.

Do you know which parts I did wrong?

Hi,

If you are getting just 4-8 meters then there is something incorrect with the test setup.

Can you use SmartRF studio first with the LaunchPads to make the first range test.

Configure one LaunchPad to receive PacketRx and the other LaunchPad to transmit PacketTx.

Which frequency and PHY are you using?

SmartRF Studio is awesome, thank you! It does what I need. I used the default 868 MHz, and the distance now is much longer than that of my previous test.
