LAUNCHXL-CC1310: Unacceptable Error Rates Above 750 Kbps @ 920 Mhz

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC1310
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1310, SYSCONFIG, CC1190

Can you point me in the direction of a solution for some issues I have about the CC1310 simplelink transceiver?

I’m specifically interested in figuring out settings to achieve some of its higher supported data rates. On the datasheet the part is specified as supporting up to 4 Mbps max, but it seems that the device control panel software in SmartRF studio only provides typical settings up to 800kbps.

I have a pair of CC13010 dev boards. We're bench-testing them with Smart RF Studio.

At 915-920 Mhz, i'm getting very low error-rate up to about 800 kbps, and then error-rate suddenly goes through the roof, both BIT error rate, and packet error rate.

Settings:

RSSI: -20 dBm
3767 Khz recv filter bw
32 byte preamble
255 byte packet length
4 byte sync word
2 byte sequence number

Configuration export files are available here.
 /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/156/smartrf_5F00_best800kbps.zip

Result:

  • 400 Kbps: 0 errors
  • 600 Kbps: 0 errors
  • 700 Kbps: 0 bit error rate (ber), 25% packet error rate (per)
  • 750 Kbps: 0 ber, 2.6% per
  • 800 Kbps:
    • 127 packet: 0.02% ber, 17% per
    • 250 packet: 0.02% ber, 30% per
  • 810 Kbps: 0.2% ber, 86% per

Generally, we find a longer preamble on npn module gives better performance.

Another issue: RF Studio only allows up to 1.99 Mbps
