CC1120: How to lower CC1120 RX consumption?

Part Number: CC1120

Hi radio champs,

The CC1120 is used here as a 169MHz transceiver in a radio system - In reception the overall radio system (CC1120, MCU, TCXO, LNA, and the switch in the Skyworks PA) consumes around 30mA for a -121dBm sensitivity.

The same CC1120 radio module is evaluated for a repeater use case but the corresponding Rx consumption is too high.

Does it exist a CC1120 RX mode consuming less power? A loss in sensitivity could be acceptable in this application if that helps to lower the consumption.

Would the SNIFF mode use could be an option ?

Thank you!

Best regards,

Guillaume

  • - For CC1120 we have a "high performance mode" and a "low power mode" in RX, check the datasheet for details.

    - Sniff mode: Start by using SmartRF Studio and go to the "RF Sniff mode" tab. Input the parameters that they use in the project and you will get an impression if sniff mode is possible and the estimated current saving. For details, look into www.ti.com/.../swra428
