Hi,

I would like to know how easy it would be to scale up the Wi-Sun FAN network? Example if I want to add more gateway, boarder router and end nodes.

Hi Markel,

According to Wi-SUN FAN specification, to have multiple border routers in a Wi-SUN FAN, you would need a WAN backhaul connectivity between them.

Then each border router manages its PAN consisting of router nodes and possibly leaf nodes(leaf nodes are not implemented in TI Wi-SUN FAN solution yet).

So, where do you connect the sensors if there are no leaf node or end node? Can you connect the sensors at router?

The ease of scalability I am mentioning about is like scanning a QR code to connect a router or end node to the network.

Hi,

Yes, it should be possible to connect sensors to the router node.

In the SDK, we have the CoAP node example which you may find interesting. This is a fully embedded solution, WiSUN router node with a CoAP application layer to control LEDs on the node device from the border router.

The network discovery and joining process is also defined by the specification.

This is taken care of automatically by the Border router and router node/ CoAP node applications. To get a feel for this behavior, maybe setting up a Wi-SUN network would be useful. You could follow this Simplelink academy to set up a Wi-SUN network.

What I am referring to is for example you scan a router bar code or qr code using smart phone so it can join the network.
