SIMPLELINK-CONNECT-SW-MOBILE-APP: Available devices list is not displayed

Part Number: SIMPLELINK-CONNECT-SW-MOBILE-APP

Hi,

After updating SimpleLinkConnect from 1.2.2 to 1.3.2, the list of advertising devices no longer appears in the Available devices screen.

This issue has been confirmed on Android 8, 10, and 11.

It is displayed on Android 13 of Pixel5.

Is this a known bug?

Regards,

Masaki

  • Hi Masaki,

Thank you for reaching out. I have tried to reproduce this on my side but was not able to see the same behavior:

I am using a Pixel 6 Pro with Android version 14. Do you have access to an Android device with Android version 14 you could test with? Could you also share a screenshot of the settings page within the app? It should look like this:

Also, to confirm can you verify if bluetooth is enabled in your device settings before opening the SimpleLink Connect app?

    Best Regards,

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

I'm not sure if Android 14 can be prepared in-house, but I'll check.

This is the settings screen. ble setting is enabled.

    Android8 + SimpleLinkConnect1.3.3   Issue occurred.

    Android11 + SimpleLinkConect1.3.2  Issue occurred.

    Android13 + SimpleLinkConnect1.3.2 Issue not occurred.

When I checked the SimpleLinkConnect app this morning, 1.3.3 had been released. Since this modification was related to scan, I thought it was a

correction code for this issue, but the issue continued to occur in the 1.3.3 + Android 8 configuration.

    Regards,

    Masaki

  • Hi Masaki,

Based on the fact that it seems the issue is restricted to earlier Android versions, then it is possible that the issue was on the Android OS side and it was fixed in a release after Android 11. Could you share the smart phone model that you are using for these tests?

    Best Regards,

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

    The models are as follows.

    The Android11 model is ASUS_Z01KDA.

    The Android8 model is P4903JP.

yes. I'm planning to use it for testing, so I'd like you to fix it.

    Regards,

    Masaki

  • Also, Android 13, which works without problems, is Pixel 5.

  • Hi Masaki,

This sounds like the Android application code leverages functionality that is not present in earlier Android releases. I will make a ticket to get this addressed, but in the meantime i would recommend referencing the source code we have available for the Android app and the Android support forums to see if they are aware of any Android development BLE features that may have changed between Android 11 and Android 13.

    Best Regards,

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

    I got it.

When do you think there will be a rough schedule for this?

    Regards,

    Masaki

  • Hi Masaki,

Unfortunately, I do not have a rough timeline for when this would be fixed. I did think of one more thing we can try though. Can you verify the following:

    1. Ensure Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Locations services are enabled on the device

    2. Verify the application permissions and ensure they are all enabled for the SimpleLink Connect Application.

    Best Regards,

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

I understand. I will check it.

    Regards,

    Masaki

  • Hi Jan,

    I checked that, but the issue was reproduced with Android8 + SimpleLinkConnect1.3.3 and Android11 + SimpleLinkConnect1.3.2.

    Regards,

    Masaki

  • Hi Masaki,

Can you check the app permissions in your Android device settings to ensure that the app has been granted all permissions? Also can you confirm that Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and location/gps are all enabled on the phone when attempting to scan?

    Best Regards,

    Jan

  • Hi, Jan

    I took a screenshot.

Since the language is Japanese, English is written next to it.

    ★location, wi-fi, ble

    ★ permission

Also, even in the same environment, advertisement lists will be displayed for similar apps from different vendors.

    Regards,

    Masaki

  • Hi Masaki,

Thank you for the screenshot. The permissions look okay to me. I think this further points to there being an issue with the older Android OS version with the mobile app. I have filed the ticket and this should hopefully be addressed soon. Unfortunately, I do not have a date to share as this will be handled by the R&D team.

I truly apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing.

    Best Regards,

    Jan

  • Hi Jan,

    Understood.

I look forward to it being resolved.

    Best Regards,

    Masaki
