SmartRF Studio Device Control Panel does not open

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1352P

Good day to everyone,

I have issue where SmartRF studio fails to open Device Control Panel. If I try to launch in Offline mode without connecting dev board it just hangs in stage where it is writing "Configure device..." If I connect dev board it fails with message. I attached print screen for information.

Previously I used this software many times. Now came back to it after year or so and it fails. Due to this issue I tried updating SmartRF studio to the latest version, reinstalled "Flash Programmer 2", reainstalled "uniflasher", installed  xds110 emulation pack. Nothing helped.

I really needed just to go offline mode and check available RF configurations.

Trying to go offline mode:

Trying to connect to real board

  • Hello Aivaras,

This sounds like an issue with the Smart RF Studio 7 installation if you are not able to enter the Device Control Panel in Offline mode.  Have you tried removing all instances of Smart RF Studio on your computer before re-installing?  Are there any other systems nearby you can test against?  What OS are you using and are you connecting a CC1352P LaunchPad when you attempt a running device session?

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • Previously I was reinstalling on top of old installation. Now when you mentioned I uninstalled software, deleted folder from disk and only the reinstalled . Software still fails to launch in offline mode but now it shows error dialog with some information.

I borrowed PC from my collogue and on his computer the same installation is working. My PC is

CC1352P is a custom board but it was used successfully with smart RF studio many times via XDS110 interface.

  • Hi Aivaras,

If the same installation and the same CC1352P board works on a colleague's PC then it sounds like the issue is local to your machine and I'm not sure how we can help.

    Cheers,

  • If the CC1352P Prop RF mode was selected then I would expect the default Smart RF Studio 7 to reference C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\SmartRF Studio 7\config\xml\cc1352p\targets\targets.xml as the configuration.  The location referred in your error code differs from this and appears to be empty based on the description.

  • I have location you mentioned, it is present in my drive

The location mentioned in error dialog is missing.  How this happened that software does not search in correct location? Do I need to install something additional to add additional files?

  • You do not need to install additional files.  Do you use the SmartRF Studio 7 shortcut in C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\SmartRF Studio 7 to open Smart RF Studio, and does the location referenced in your error exist on your computer?

    Regards,
    Ryan

  • I use desktop shortcut which targets "C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\SmartRF Studio 7\bin\startup_window.exe"

When you mentioned I also tried shortcut in C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\SmartRF Studio 7 but outcope is the same.

Location referenced in my error does not exist.

  • I'm not sure why that location is being searched for.  Since your colleague's setup is working, you could try copying their installation into your system or at least perform a diff compare of the two.  You could aslo try searching for files containing the text of the faulty path, C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments\SmartRF Tools\SmartRF Studio 7\config\xml\cc1352p\device_config.xml and so on.
