Hi All,

Request your suggestions/comments on Radio Duty Cycling (RDC) and Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols in the Contiki netstack for the following design requirements:

In our design power consumption of the nodes is not a constraint. But we have a congested network and the behavior of the nodes are critical. The stack uses 'csma_driver' for MAC, 'contikimac_driver' for RDC and

'prop_mode_driver' for RADIO by default.

What would be the optimum selection for MAC, RDC and RADIO for the above said design requirement?.

I would suggest not to use contikimac for RDC as it sends a lot of frames/packets if the receiver is not "in sync" with the transmitter, please see: github.com/.../Radio-duty-cycling

So suggestion are:
nullrdc_driver for RDC
csma_driver for MAC
prop_mode_driver for RADIO

Thanks Jonas. This helps.

We also use PA CC1190. Since ours is a long range application, we will be configuring TX/RX always in the high gain mode.

Please let us know the sequence of PA_EN and LNA_EN pins during transmit/receive mode. In prop_mode_driver for RADIO, we would also like to know the file/API in which support for PA CC1190 control functions shall be added.

Hi,
Thank you for sharing the doc.
We use Contiki OS with 6LoWPAN mesh support. In nullradio driver, inside transmit API we are enabling PA_EN for TX HGM mode of operation. Is this the right portion of code to do the same ?.

Similarly for RX mode, where shall I control "LNA_EN" for TX HGM?.

Yes, your understanding is correct.
HGM can be tied high always. PA_EN should be high when you want to TX and LNA_EN should be high when you want to RX.

For the following configuration how shall we set the PAN ID.

In code we were able to see only for ieee mode. Is it possible to configure pan id for prop mode.
