I want to setup Ref Design TIDC-01002 and my focus is to achieve the maximum distance in a free field sensor application. Several km are required. Sparse measurements ( every minute or hour, some bytes).

The above mentioned LaunchPads seem to be valid candidates for a prototype and my questions are:

- is there a difference in radio performance (maximum distance)

- is it advisable to use external antennas (rather the PCB ) and if yes which one.

Hi,

LAUNCHXL-CC1352P1 (20dBm Tx Power in Sub 1-GHz band) and LAUNCHXL-CC1352P-2 (20dBm Tx Power in 2.4GHz band) can be used to achieve maximum range.

Yes, you can use Whip Antennas. The following is the link. You can use equivalents of those ones. No need to use form the same source.

So I could use LAUNCHXL-CC1325P1 as a drop-in replacement for the CC13x0 or CC13x2 LaunchPads used in TIDC-01002 ?

Do the launch pads allow for easy usage of the mentioned whip antenna or would this require a new PCB design ?

Hi,

Yes, you can use as a Drop in replacement but you may need to use proper SDK.

There are Optional RF Connectors on the LPs. So, you can use them to use External Antenna but you need to move the Coupling Capacitor from the On-Board Antenna path to the RF Connector path. Please refer to the Schematics of the LPs for further details.
