LAUNCHXL-CC13-90: What will cause failure of launchpad board?

Hi,

When I tried to connect the board to SmartRF studio, I noticed that the board is shown as unknow device, then I smelled something burning, the MCU on XDS side became too hot to touch. Looks like the board is toasted now.

My question is, what would cause the board to fail? ESD? The USB cable still works with my other CC13XX launchpads. And I don't see visible shorts between PINs on the board.

Was this a new out of the box LAUNCH-CC13-90 board?

No, about 4 month old. When I first got it, I connected it to XDS/EnnergyTrace on CC1352P launchpad and tried to measure its actual current draw. It had been sitting on shelf since then. Could it be damaged when I disconnect it from CC1352P board?

There seems to be a TVS right after USB socket, so ESD from USB cable should not be a problem.

I would assume that something on the board (the XDS110 part) has been damaged since last time you used it. Has it been stored in a locked ESD bag?
