SMARTRFTRXEBK: MSP430F5438A Code Development Without Trx Boards

I was directed to the SmartRF TrxEB rev 1.7 board and SmartRF Studio 7 as a platform for code development for the MSP430F5438A microcontroller, since the development/evaluation board specific to the MSP430F5438A is obsolete.

I have two questions:

1) Where can I find documentation that specifically details how to use SmartRF Studio 7 to program the MSP430 that is on the SmartRF TrxEB, so I can exercise the GPIOs, and then take the code I have written and save it so I can program an off-board MSP430?  (I have the MSP-FET to do this.)

2) Will SmartRF Studio 7 connect (and indicate it is connected) to the SmartRF TrxEB without the transceiver boards in the RF1 and RF2 sockets?
